Just Rennie’s Catering began in September 2003 when Marla Rennie started the business on her own. In its first year, promoted only by word of mouth, the company offered light lunches of sandwiches, salads, pasta and desserts.
The catering company did so well that Marla’s husband Doug Rennie left his position as Executive Chef at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Indiana, to help Marla grow the business. Doug, a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute and a former chef at upscale restaurants in Houston and Indianapolis, envisioned a catering service that would offer a fine dining experience to its clientele.
Doug and Marla bought a building at 100 SE Fourth Street in downtown Evansville, Indiana, and hired interior designer Cinda Vote to transform it into a Tuscan wine room-bistro. The unique setting accommodates groups up to 48. Catering services can also be provided at Just Rennie’s clients’ own locations.
In February 2008 Marla spearheaded the creation of Just Rennie’s Cookie Company. The Rennies again hired Cinda Vote to renovate the building next door to their catering company. The cookie company, which had its origins in mail order gift boxes, now has the storefront to offer fresh deli salads, sandwiches, pasta, gourmet coffees and baked goods to its walk-in customers. Just Rennie’s Cookie Company is best known, however, for its unique mound-of-dough cookies. Take-out lunches can be enjoyed outside on sidewalk seating.
Marla and Doug’s businesses continue to expand and thrive due to the couple’s personal dedication to unsurpassed quality, service and attention to detail.
